Long-term strategy 2030–2050 Long-term strategy 2030–2050
The predecessor of KN Energies — the Klaipėda oil export and transfer base — was established, marking the start of oil product exports to England, Cuba, Poland, Belgium, and the Scandinavian countries. In 1982, 6.4 million tonnes of oil products were exported through Klaipėda.
AB “Klaipėdos nafta” was established in 1994. After the company was modernised, export operations began. Since 2002, the terminal has been able to load tankers of up to 100,000 tonnes. In 2009, following the re-establishment of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania, the majority of AB “Klaipėdos nafta” shares were transferred under its management. In 2014, the FSRU Independence arrived in the Port of Klaipėda and began operation.
The 2015–2020 strategy was approved, outlining EUR 200 million in planned investments. The Klaipėda LNG terminal began operating, and in 2016 the State-Owned Enterprises Report recognised AB “Klaipėdos nafta” as one of the best-managed state companies.
To create a full LNG logistics chain in the Baltic region, the LNG distribution station began operating in 2017. In 2020, after winning an international tender together with its partners, AB “Klaipėdos nafta” became the operator of the LNG terminal in Brazil’s Port of Açu.
In 2024, the legal name AB “Klaipėdos nafta” was changed to AB “KN Energies”. In the same year, the company won the tender to provide commercial operations services for the first and second LNG terminals in Wilhelmshaven, as well as the Brunsbüttel and Stade terminals, and became the technical operator of the Wilhelmshaven 2 terminal. KN Energies also became the owner of the Klaipėda LNG terminal’s FSRU Independence.
