Additional LNG terminal capacities to be allocated

2016-09-29 Company news

As the new gas year approaches, AB Klaipėdos Nafta, the operator of the LNG terminal, has entered into an additional agreement on the use of the terminal's capacities with one of the largest gas market players – UAB Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas.

According to the signed agreement, during the current gas year, which lasts from 1 October 2016 to 30 September 2017, Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas has reserved additional capacities of the LNG terminal, which will amount at this stage to 2.183.016.485 kWh.

“This year, we are observing a change that market players increasingly often use the flexibility provided by the LNG terminal in forming gas supply portfolios and purchasing LNG from different world market suppliers. This year's practice has shown that considerable capacities are also ordered in the middle of the current year, when UAB Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas and AB Achema ordered a considerable amount of the LNG terminal's capacities”, comments Mantas Bartuška, General Director of AB Klaipėdos Nafta.

The potential users of the LNG terminal can reserve capacities at any time. The rules of the use of the LNG terminal provide for flexibility, which allows gas importers to use the LNG terminal expeditiously in ordering the terminal's capacities and coordinating supply schedules.

“It is obvious that the terminal's users see that the LNG infrastructure creates real price competition between natural gas supplied by trunk gas pipelines and LNG supplied from the terminal. It is especially important to mention that the rules of the use of the LNG terminal are unique – they create the possibility for different users to respond and to accept additional quantities from different suppliers expediently and within an especially short time”, said Bartuška.

According to Bartuška, the LNG terminal provides an excellent opportunity for potential suppliers to use the advantage offered by the open access terminal and to supply gas to the Baltic region that is to Lithuania and Estonia, and after actually gas market open to Latvia.

The company will keep on announcing on its website and updating information on available LNG terminal's capacities that can be acquired during the current gas year, which lasts from 1 October 2016 to 30 September 2017.

As was already announced, in the new gas year, the LNG terminal operated by AB Klaipėdos Nafta has two reliable users: capacities have already been reserved by UAB Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas and also UAB Litgas which reserved capacities from 1 October 2016 to 30 September 2017 and intends to regasify 3.602.216.638 kWh of natural gas.

The State owns 72.32 percent of Klaipėdos Nafta shares.
