FINAL CONFERENCE OF HEKLA PROJECT TOOK PLACE IN KLAIPEDA

2018-03-01 Company news

Government officials, policymakers, representatives from leading regional and European organisations attended and contributed to the main topic – New Clean Energy Opportunities in the Baltic Sea Region.

HEKLA project culminated in the deployment of small-scale onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) reloading station. The LNG reloading station, developed and implemented by KN (AB Klaipėdos Nafta), is intended to enable LNG market to supply LNG for customers in the Baltic Sea region as well as promote the use of clean fuel for maritime operations and heavy vehicles and ensuring access to LNG for remote consumers. This infrastructure will be a part of full LNG value chain in the Baltic Sea – a possibility to use full supply chain including FSRU “Independence” (large scale LNG terminal), small-scale LNG reloading station and onshore operations.

The final conference was officially opened by Mr. Mindaugas Jusius, CEO of AB Klaipedos Nafta and Mayor of Klaipėda city – Mr. Vytautas Grubliauskas.

The event sessions focused on HEKLA project and clean energy policy in EU and Lithuania, the maritime and land transport LNG sectors. A discussion panel tackled the long standing dilemma – is LNG an option for the Baltics. Panelists from the Eesti Gaas, Litgas, Achema Gas Tradea and Nauticor GmbH & Co. KG featured and gave the participants motivating ‘food for thought’ discussions. The sessions were folowed with the presentations of a business case from
Barter S.A., Sofregas, ESO and representatives from the Province of Gerderland, the Netherlands.

HEKLA-Helsingborg & Klaipeda LNG Infrastructure Facility Deployment is a CEF, Motorways of the Sea Project financially supported by the European Commission. Final Conference, was a valuable summarising event gathering over 80 key stakeholders in Klaipeda Castle's Site Conference Hall on 1st March in Klaipeda, Lithuania.
