KN resumes supply of diesel to Ukraine in ISO containers

International energy terminal operator AB Klaipėdos nafta (KN) resumes the supply of diesel to Ukraine in ISO containers. At the company's liquid products terminal in Klaipėda, 30,000 tonnes of diesel will be loaded into ISO containers and will be transported by rail to Ukraine via Poland.

The company has successfully used a loading scheme for loading diesel into ISO containerised tanks. This method of loading was first tested at the end of last year when the first ISO containers with diesel fuel were sent to Ukraine.

In record time, the company not only successfully adapted its infrastructure to the new loading scheme, but also took care of all the components of the diesel logistics operation to Ukraine in a comprehensive manner: it found and rented the required number of ISO containers for the client, which were in short supply throughout Europe at the time, transported the containers to the port of Klaipėda, arranged for their temporary storage, and then forwarded the already loaded containers to the port.

Between 2022 and 2023, the KN-operated liquid energy terminal in Klaipėda received a total of four tankers carrying diesel destined for Ukraine. In total, almost 100,000 tonnes of diesel were shipped by rail from Klaipėda to Ukraine in ISO containers and wagons during this period.

The 30,000 tonnes of diesel have been transferred from the Klaipėda-bound tanker to KN tanks and then to ISO container tanks, which will be transported by rail via Poland to Ukraine.

Mindaugas Navikas, Chief Commercial Officer of KN, points out that KN, as the manager of the infrastructure of strategically important energy terminals, ensures energy security not only in LNG, but also in petroleum products, by offering storage of the strategic reserve of petroleum products, as well as the possibility of their uninterrupted import and export.

"Taking a more general view, the change in the geopolitical situation has made Klaipėda an important import point for oil products in the region and in Central Europe, including Ukraine. We continue our cooperation with our customers there and are prepared to assist them secure a smooth supply of energy resources whenever the need arises, not only in ensuring a smooth supply of energy resources to Ukraine, but also in providing export opportunities for other liquid energy products produced at their plants" says M. Navikas.

KN is an international energy terminal operator responsible for ensuring safe and reliable flows of liquid energy, loading of chemicals and raw materials for Baltic consumers, while also using the company’s knowledge and skills to assist clients around the world in developing sustainable energy infrastructure projects. The company currently operates three terminals for liquid energy products in Klaipėda, Subačius, and Marijampolė, and is also the operator of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals in Lithuania and Brazil. KN also provides commercial operation services for two of Germany's three floating LNG terminals. To date, the company has contributed to more than 10 different LNG projects around the world.
