LNG EXPORT OPERATION: FOR A SECOND TIME THIS MONTH

2017-01-30 Company news

Coral Energy, a small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier arrived at the LNG Terminal operated by Klaipėdos Nafta AB (KN). For a second time, it will be filled with LNG that will be supplied to distribution stations in the Nordic countries.

Coral Energy LNG carrier visited the Klaipėda LNG terminal for the first time on 2 January. The LNG transfer operation performed (from the floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) into a small-scale LNG carrier) was the first of its kind.

Coral Energy, which was put into operation in 2013, is the first small-scale carrier filled with LNG in Klaipėda in January this year. The vessel is nearly 155 m long and its capacity is 15,600 m3. The LNG cargo for export amounted to 15,000 m3.

After this second visit to the Klaipėda Seaport, Coral Energy will travel to the Nordic countries to deliver the gas to small LNG distribution stations, from which LNG is usually transported further by tank trucks or is used to fill vessels operating on this type of fuel.

‘It is obvious that after the first successful filing of Coral Energy our LNG export operations are gaining pace and our clients are discovering advantages of the terminal. They appreciate the high LNG transportation efficiency due to the convenient geographic position and flexibility of the terminal, providing opportunities for both regasification and transfer operations. This is highly important to us so that we can maximise the use of the terminal and cut our operating costs through the security component that forms part of the final gas price‘, says Tadas Matulionis, Director of the LNG Terminal Department.
