Oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal operator KN (AB Klaipėdos Nafta), Hoegh LNG Klaipėda, the Lithuanian Maritime Academy (LMA) and two selected students signed cooperation contracts today on carrying out technology internships on the FSRU Independence.
The internships will begin on the 28th of May and will continue until the 19th of August.
This exclusive and unique internship on the floating storage regasification unit will be carried out by Matas Morkūnas, a second year student in the LMA Marine Electrical Power Plant Operation study programme, and Erikas Mažionis, a second year student in the LMA Marine Power Plant Operation study programme.
The students were selected for the internship on the basis of their learning achievements as well as personal interviews during which their motivation was assessed.
The contracts were signed as part of an agreement concluded between the companies and the school in summer 2016 which provided for cooperation by creating opportunities for students of maritime science to carry out technology internships on the FSRU Independence.
Last summer, LMA students Agnė Putriūtė and Dmitrij Bogačenko completed summer internships on the vessel.
“KN is a completely open company, both in making its activities, investments and plans public, as well as in providing the opportunity to acquire specific knowledge and come into contact with a relatively new sphere in Lithuania. The preparation and cultivation of LNG competencies is one of the priority directions of corporate development for our company, and we are consistently increasing our contribution in it,” said Rimas Rusinas, manager of the AB Klaipėdos Nafta LNG terminal, after signing the contract.
LMA director Viktoras Senčila was pleased that by cooperating with Klaipėdos Nafta and Hoegh LNG Klaipėda, the school has the opportunity to offer its students a truly unique internship opportunity: “This is a very specific area where the requirements are very high. We are delighted that our students have the opportunity to acquire valuable knowledge and skills in the operation of this complex equipment.”
The students who signed the internship contract claimed that they are eagerly awaiting the internship, during which they hope to gain a lot of new knowledge and invaluable experience.
“The main goal is to master innovations as well as technological skills,” said Erikas Mažionis after signing the contract.
