In the beginning of this year, KN launched implementation of the digitalisation and innovation strategy developed by its in-house staff. On Wednesday, continuing the digital transformation initiative, KN organised the first KN hackathon, in which KN employees developed a mobile app for recording operating incidents and risks.
Over 40 KN team members participated in the first KN hackathon, where during approximately five hours they were searching for the optimum solution of 'one-stop-shop' reporting by KN staff about various organisational matters to be improved – in particular, the ones related to operating risks and incidents.
'We are looking for most simplest ways for our employees, even those at non-computerised workplaces, to report various matters arising in daily activities that need attention or improvement: starting from occupational safety matters and finishing with various, in simple language, household matters, solutions to be improved, to achieve more effective and efficient operation. Besides, it is an excellent way to bring different members of the organisation together, to promote cooperation, to mature new ideas and exchange them', said KN Legal and Administrative Director, Head of KIN Digitalisation and Innovation Strategy Rytis Valūnas.
The hackathon is one of the measures contributing to KN digital transformation promotion. The KN digitalisation and innovation strategy consists of five activity directions, in total. The strategy is oriented at digitalisation and simplification of business processes, installation and application of business analytics tools, creation of staff community communicating and cooperating in cyberspace and improvement of customers' experience. Attention is focused on industrial technology as well – digital twin of Klaipėda oil terminal will be developed, automatic train carriage recognition system will be installed, opportunity to install inductive pipeline heating technology will be developed. Creation of innovative working environment is highly important for the implementation of all these directions stipulated in the KN digitalisation and innovation strategy, in order to transform all employees of the company into an organisation, which would be engaging, continuously learning and open to digital technology and innovations.
The KN digitalisation and innovation strategy is exclusive for being developed by the in-house employees.
'Obviously, operation digitalisation and openness of the organisation to innovations are crucial factors today, which allow increasing staff's productivity and cutting down operating costs, making faster and better business solutions and creating bigger value for clients, at the same time increasing motivation of the organisation. More important, this strategy was developed and is being implemented by the employees themselves, who voluntarily formed a KN team of innovators. The main goals include pursuit of effectiveness, improvement of business processes and our business growth, which are highly important for KN shareholders, since real financial benefits are generated, while modern and innovative approach of the company is required in potential international projects, development of which is the focus of the organisation', emphasised Mr. Valūnas.
The digitalisation and innovation strategy will update a part of the KN activity strategy until 2030.
